Hopeful Imagination: A 3-Week Discussion Group
Tuesdays, July 21, 28 & August 4 at 2:00 p.m.
We are only half way through the year 2020, but the world has changed in ways none of us could have ever imagined on New Year’s Day. Every person’s life has been changed in some way by Covid-19 and by the death of George Floyd. The response to both has been unprecedented. So, too, the church has been changed. Everyone wonders when things will be back to normal, whatever that may be. The real question is, “How do churches thrive when the world around them is changing so much and so fast?”
In their book, Hopeful Imagination: Traditional Churches Finding God’s Way in a Changing World, Jayne Davis and Mike Queen tackle those questions and more. CBF North Carolina is proud to partner with the authors to give clergy and laity the opportunity to think about what “hopeful imagination” looks like in the life of their church. Surely there are some things that will never be as they once were. And there will be things not yet imagined.
At 2:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, July 21, 28 & August 4, the authors will use the chapters of the book as a springboard for discussion around cultivating hopeful imagination in the midst of the issues facing today’s churches.
This is not some step-by-step plan for what’s next. Rather it is to be a time offering hope and encouragement about the future of our churches and an invitation to be free to imagine what that future might look like. Thus, Hopeful Imagination.
CBFNC will provide at no charge a copy of the book to each participant. The group will be limited to ten persons so that everyone can engage fully in the conversations.
