Addressing Mental Health in the Church
Mental illness plagues millions of Americans and their families, yet churches seem hesitant to address it. Many peddle unhelpful, even hurtful theories that depression is just "lacking the joy of the Lord," or that anxiety is only evidence of insufficient faith. Such explanations rarely help those who suffer, and they only contribute to the taboo nature of speaking about mental health. How can churches be honest about the mental health epidemic, and what does it look like for the Body of Christ to offer help to those who struggle?
