Exploring Faith with Children’s Literature
We are in a golden age of children's literature, with exceptional books featuring new ideas and diverse protagonists being released regularly. Picture books are a great way to start a Sunday School lesson, to introduce a children's sermon, or even to share with an entire congregation to get a conversation started. In this workshop, you will get practical ideas of how to incorporate excellent children's literature, especially picture books, in all areas of worship. Whether it is a particular topic that you'd like to address or a season of the church calendar that you would like to explore, we have ideas to help you get started on this journey of using children's literature in the church. Some examples include using Carole Boston Weatherford's book The Beatitudes: From Slavery to Civil Rights to explore the message of the Beatitudes in a service, using The Stuff of Stars by Marion Dane Bauer to introduce Ash Wednesday to kids, or reading The Youngest Marcher by Cynthia Levinson to show how faith inspires action.
