CBF of North Carolina
THEOLOGICAL EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS


CBF of North Carolina provides scholarship assistance to students engaged in theological education. In addition to direct scholarship support listed below, CBFNC partners with four North Carolina Divinity Schools to provide funding in the form of scholarships that are awarded by the individual schools. Information on these scholarships is available through the schools and applicants should inquire with the following contacts:

For individuals not enrolled and receiving scholarships through one of the four partner schools, CBFNC provides direct support for students through its Theological Education Scholarships, Scholarships for Doctoral Students in Theology and Ministry, and through the Randall and Lou Lolley Scholarships. 

 




Theological Education Scholarships
Theological Education Scholarships are awarded by the Leadership Development Council of CBFNC, and support well qualified students who are applying to or enrolled in an accredited, graduate programs in preparation for ministry in Baptist congregations or ministries. Students from North Carolina attending schools outside the state are encouraged to apply. The maximum Theological Education Scholarship for 2019-2020 is $2500 for the academic year. While a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree remains the standard educational credential for ordained ministry, individuals pursuing ministerial preparation through other accredited degree and non-degree programs may also apply. Current recipients of other CBFNC scholarships are not eligible.

Randall and Lou Lolley Scholarships
The Randall and Lou Lolley Scholarships are the most comprehensive of all CBFNC scholarships and require potential recipients to be nominated by someone who can speak to the candidate’s outstanding promise for Christian ministry and excellent potential for graduate-level work. There is no application for this award. All nominees must be beginning their Master of Divinity program in the Fall term following the awarding of the scholarship. Each Lolley Scholarship is valued at $5000.00 a year and is renewable for up to three years in a Master of Divinity program. Recipients of the Lolley Scholarship who enroll in one of the four CBFNC partner schools will receive an institutional match of the award, raising the overall value of the Lolley Scholarship to $10,000.00 a year. 

Individuals wishing to nominate someone for the Lolley Scholarship should utilize the Lolley Nomination Form.


 


Support for Students in Doctoral Programs
Scholarships for Doctoral Students in Theology & Ministry are available on a limited basis for North Carolinians who are applying to or enrolled in programs as a means of enhancing their leadership within Baptist congregations and other ministerial settings. Typically these programs include those leading to the Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.), Doctor of Theology (Th.D.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees.

Dissertation, Thesis and Doctoral Project Scholarship
A Dissertation, Thesis and Doctoral Project Scholarship will be awarded each year to a doctoral student to assist in the completion of a dissertation, thesis or doctoral project that promises to make a significant contribution and benefit CBFNC congregations and/or enhance the work of CBF of North Carolina. The award in  2019-2020 will be $5000.00.
